Biography

Dr. Trishanna C. Sookdeo, is a dual board-certified family medicine and obesity medicine physician who has accrued more than 14 years in the study and practice of primary care medicine. Born, raised and educated in the Caribbean, Dr. Sookdeo earned her medical degree from the University of West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. She completed internship in the areas of obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Following this, she worked in Trinidad in the community health and primary care field and then accompanied her husband to the United States to further her career aspirations.

Dr. Sookdeo completed her residency at Howard university hospital, Washington D.C. where she served as Chief Resident of Research and Quality Improvement in her final year. Dr. Sookdeo received the Award for Excellence in Research and the Research Day Award Certificate of Achievement in the year 2014. During that time, she also obtained a Master’s in Public Health with distinction from Capella University.

She is an active member of the American Board of Family Physicians and is a Fellow of the American Board of Family Physicians. She is also a member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and serves as a member of the Practice Enhancement and Patient Safety committee. She is a member of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and serves yearly as a Delegate to the FMA House of Delegates. In 2018, she graduated from the Karl M. Altenburger, M.D. Leadership Academy through the FMA.

Dr. Sookdeo has a passion for teaching not only patients but future colleagues as well. Her prior role as Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida and current role as a medical reviewer for ‘Choosing therapy’ (https://www.choosingtherapy.com/trishanna-sookdeo-md/) is one that she enjoys.

Her passion for providing exceptional, individualized and personalized care is evident from the very first visit. She believes in connecting with a patient through open communication, with a welcoming and compassionate bedside manner. Her medical care revolves around the definition of health as not merely the absence of disease or illness but a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, which she learnt as a medical student from the World Health Organization’s definition of health.

She believes that treating the whole patient and not only treating a part of the whole, is the only option for achieving optimal health and wellness.

Her areas of interest include preventive care and screening with a focus on healthy aging and improving daily quality of life.

At the clinic, Dr. Sookdeo and staff provide care for acute illnesses, management of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension, annual wellness visits, school/sports and work physicals, weight management, well-woman examinations including pap smears, and many procedures such as joint injections, skin biopsies, keloid treatments.
